Farewell 2013

Kia ora, I am a year 7 student at Pt England School and looking forward to being a year 8. This year, I have made heaps of new friends and but the sad thing is that most of them are leaving at the end of the year. This year as been awesome, mostly because I had a really awesome teacher (Ms Tito).

Because the year 8's are leaving, I just want to say goodbye to my friends Andrea, Te Rina, Hosannah, Richard, Zion and all the year 8 extension group. I'm going to miss Andrea and Te Rina's buzzing laughs, Hosannah and Zion's funny personalities, Richard's kick back personality and the year 8 extension groups awesomeness. And to all my year year 7 friends who are also leaving, just want to say "See Ya" and wish all of you the best for the future.

I just want to say "BYE" to Ms Tito because I may not be in her class next year. Thanks for all the awesomely fun times and the inspirational growling's and lectures. Thank you for teaching me how to be a "PURPLE COW"and not an ordinary brown cow. Those are things I will remember forever, because I know it will help me next year in my new class and in the future.

Besides from not having this years year 8's, I am looking forward for next. I am looking forward to being a year 8 and leading by example to the little kids. I would really like to achieve being in at least one sport team next year.

I have really enjoyed being in Room 19. I really don't want to leave Room 19's dramas, fun times, awesome teacher, students and over all AWESOMENESS!! I hope next year will be as awesome as this year.

HAVING A NETBOOK IS AWESOME!!!

Big Question:
HOW HAS HAVING A NETBOOK CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET HELPED MY LEARNING THIS YEAR?
Having a netbook that is connected to the Internet has really helped me this year. Like in literacy, Mrs Lagitupu would say all these intelligent words I didn't understand or haven't even heard before. So I typed them into Google and it came up with the meaning.

Something I Discovered/Learnt on My Own
This year my little sister wanted a bracelet for her birthday, but I didn't have enough money to buy one. So I grabbed my netbook and searched up "how to make an awesome bracelet that's cheap", and a whole lot of different websites came up. I ended up making a really cool bracelet that I wanted to keep but had to give to my sister.

Something Special My Teacher Taught Me
This year my teacher (Ms Tito) taught me to be a "PURPLE COW". Being a "PURPLE COW" is thinking outside the box, standing out and not being shy to be different. This has helped to sign up for choir/band and now I am known as a singer and not just a normal brown cow. I will remember to be a "PURPLE COW" forever.

Something Significant I taught Myself
One day when I was at the with my family, I nearly drowned. I first read on how to swim. But that wasn't enough, so I searched it up on the web and taught myself. The next thing I knew, I was swimming just as good as a dolphin.

Something My Friend Taught Me
My friend taught me how to take a screenshot on my netbook after it got re-imaged. I was in a hurry and really needed the photo for my writing. Now I know that you take screenshot by pressing SHIFT + CTRL + PRT SCREEN.

How I Helped Other Kids Learn This Year
Earlier this year, our class did Tuakana Teina (little brother/sister Big brother/sister) with a junior class. I helped my partner to read by telling her to spell out the words she didn't know.

How Have I Grown my Key Competencies through Using Digital Tools this Year?
I think it has helped me a lot. Because when I still had pencil and paper, it was hard for me to manage myself because my hands would always get sore. It has also helped me in my thinking too because most of the time when I have pencil and paper I think more about my hands and how they hurt so much.

You would probably think there is no down side of having a netbook that is connected to the Internet.... BUT, there is. The down side is that there are a whole lot of temptations to stop you from doing your work. LUCKILY, we have WATCH DOG.

Creative Strand Reflection

During the past week, the year 7 and 8's have been working on making movies, painting pictures, and many more other creative creations about 'LOVE'.

First, we got shown a presentation about what little kids think LOVE is. My favourite explanation was about a four year old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Seeing the man cry, the little boy went over to the gentleman's yard, climbed on to his lap and just sat there. When his Mum asked what he said to the neighbour, the little boy said, "Nothing I just helped him cry."

In my group there were Chloe, Dhara, Ane and Myself. Our idea was to make a movie music video about two children who love food. Our video goes with the song 'THIS IS LOVE' by Mcfly.

Yellow Hat - The things I enjoyed
I enjoyed making a movie with my friends and also filming and editing the movie.

Black Hat - Which things didn’t I like.
I didn't really like the way that some of my team members were slacking off at the end.

Green Hat - What was something interesting about this week.
I found filming and editing very interesting.

White Hat - What did I learn.
This week, I learnt how to put music on a movie and then how to put a movie on Vimeo.

Blue Hat - What can I do better next time.
Next time, I could choose better team members that don't slack off and maybe learn to edit properly.

In the end, my group and I did not quite finish our movie but we sure did have a great time making it.

An Awesome Birthday

"Get up, Get up!" I heard my sisters shout as I was still in bed, half-a-sleep. When I was fully a wake, I realized why they were waking me up so early..... IT WAS MY 12TH BIRTHDAY. After I cased out my sisters and got changed, my dad told me that we were going to go to my Uncle's house, I was so excited.

Arriving at my Uncle's house, I got a great big hug from my Aunts. It was a surprise, because I didn't know they knew it was my birthday. Later on, when all the food was ready and everyone stopped talking, my Uncle decided that it was time to bless the food.

My favourite part of that day was all the food we got to eat. I especially enjoyed eating chocolate cake and the new Whittaker's L&P White Chocolate.

Unfortunately, I had a least favourite part. That was when our entire church had a meeting, and my Aunty announced to everyone, that I turned 12 on that day. All because of that, my cousin next to me, started punching me, just cause I didn't tell her.

Even though I didn't get any presents, at least I had the love of my family.... and also a really good feed.

Twisted Fairytale Writing

In the senior block, we have been working in our creative strand and Literacy groups again. Last week the A team were in our Literacy, Reading and Writing strand again. For Writing with Miss Squire's, we had to write a twisted fairytale in a group of three or two.

At first, I started to write one on my own about Hansel and Gretel, then I got together with Hosanah and Tyla and we came up with this.

"Reporter state, girl with Golden locks being chased out of the forest by three lions. She stole a pot of porridge. Her story was that it wasn't her fault. She had been living on a mountain with only what nature had provided.”

Reporter: “Why were you living on a mountain?” Paris: “At the age of twelve I was kicked out of my own kingdom for the golden locks I was born with. It was not my fault everybody else was brunet. I was forced to live in a mountain..

MORE TO COME .....HOPEFULLY.

Spoken Word

This morning in our literacy strand, we had Joshua Iosefo come in to help us with writing. We learnt that our voices are valuable and also how to express our feelings. Joshua also told us that 'Theres no limit to writing'. He asked us "If you could say anything to the world, what would it be?" at first I was confused but then my brain clicked and this is what I wrote.

First we wrote about a scribble that Joshua randomly drew on the board.

The scribble on the board  is very messy and makes me confused and interesting in a way. It sort represents my messy room.

Then he told us to write about anything we want and it was allowed to be about anything at all. It could be personal and also not personal.

RACISM
A problem for me is that many people get teased about where they come from or the colour of their skin. When people tease me about being dark, I wouldn't really care but if was to someone else I would get really offended.............. My name is Lisia and I think racism should be stopped.

Prospective Student Writing

Strenuously climbing the towering mountains, Tarzan dangled from the vertical rock face.  Reaching onwards, he gripped onto a rock that looked like it was bound to fall. Luckily it was sturdy. He was so scared. With an apprehensive feeling, he was determined to climb to the top of the steep cliff.

Reaching the top , Tarzan saw the Dojo. At that moment he had so many emotions running through his head. But what he was feeling the most was tiredness, anxiousness and relief.

Walking towards the humongous door, he knocked and waited to see who would answer. He heard a clanking of chains coming from the hefty door. “Huh? What’s that noise?” he wonders apprehensively. Glancing up he sees a Sensei and in respect he bows. The sensei gives a penetrating stare and points to the right.

“What?”, Tarzan gives in expression of his face. He thinks that he climbed up the mountain, risks his life, and goes to the dojo to gets rejected. So in reaction he drooped his body in rejection of the sensei and slumps off slowly.

Then, to show the sensei he is worthy he meditates all night and day. Deep in meditation, Tarzan doesn't even realize that the door opened. But then he opens an eye and stands up. Again the Sensei points to the right.  So he then again turns away in disappointment.

Then something struck Tarzan. He scrunches his face and turns around to prove to the sensei. He ran up and “BAM” the door was knocked out. One kick and it was gone. Ready to show he was worthy, the sensei came out and pointed to the right hand side again, for the third time.

This time tarzan looked and there was a sign that said, “USE THE SIDE ENTRANCE”. In embarrassment he turned and walked to the side entrance. So all this time when he thought he was getting rejected, he was actually getting told to use the side entrance.

SSW Week 7

It was a cold, dark, gloomy night. I stumbled upon an abandoned hut deep in the heart of the forest. I was just about to enter the hut, when suddenly my friend Kaycee pops up behind me trying to scare me but it  doesn't  work. After a moment of nothingness, we decide to go in together.

Waking into the hut we see nothing but spider webs, dust, old furniture and a very clean fish tank with piranhas in it, which made me think these fish get visited once and awhile. Suddenly I see green ooze coming  out of the walls, not only that but also a mysterious blur that flew past. I ask Kaycee “Did you see that?” but she just says “See what? NO!”.

Desperately wanting to know what that blur and goo was, I left Kaycee at the fish tank looking at the piranhas, to go investigate.

Reading Reflection 2

Reflection 2
TITLE: Just Jack
AUTHOR: Adele Broadbent
Pages 13 - 24
22/May/2013
The main character in the story is a boy named Jack.Based on way Kenny treats Jack, I predict that might become friends, even though Kenny is mean to Jack and thinks he can tell him what to do and that but they have heaps in common and my cousin was like that to me but we are the best of cousins. Not knowing what will happen in the end just makes me want to read more and more.

Fun Run Training

During the past 2 weeks, the senior block has been training for a Fun Run that we're doing at the end of the term. We have been running the reserve behind our school but it's only not even close to what we have to run on the day.

On the first time we did it with Room 15, we didn't know why but then we got told at the end. Luckily I had friends in that class that I could run with. In the end I was very proud of myself because I didn't think I could run 1k in under 10 minutes.

The second time we did it was just our class, we had Ms Squires as our teacher. At the end she told us that that was the fasted any class has ever done that. We were pretty proud of ourselves and when we told Ms Tito, she was proud of us too.

Maybe the next time we do this, maybe today, we could do better and hopefully earn points for our class.

Will.I.Am's Surprise Visit

Have you ever heard of the Back Eyed Peas? If you have then you probably know who Will.I.am is. He came to Pt England to give a cheque of $100,000 to the Manaiakalani Education Trust. This huge amount of money was donated to us by Will.i.am because he believes that we will the future inventors.

As Will.i.am arrived so did other 6 principals and a few students from those schools too. Watching him walk through the hall doors got everybody really excited, even the teachers. It was all very overwhelming.

As Will.I.Am was finishing his speech, I realised it was nearly is time.. time to hand over the cheque. The Principals and students made there way up on to the stage to stand next to Will.i.am so it could be that we are all receiving the cheque.

After assembly everybody went to class as fast as they could. This was all so that he could visit there classroom. We were all very excited. Unfortunately he went to room 21 & 22 but not our class. It was a bummer.

Even though he didn't come to our class, I'm still grateful that he came to our school. But it's better than being away on the day, just like how Ms Tito was. Hopefully next time a cool famous singer comes to our school, Ms Tito will be here.

Maths Whizz Update

In Maths Whiz I am currently working on Place Value. Place Value isn't a strength of mine but I'm ready to give it my best shot. Wish Me Luck.

Reading Reflection

TITLE: Just Jack
AUTHOR: Adele Broadbent
Pages 1- 13
8/May/2013

This book is about a boy named Wee Jack Baines who is tired of living in his brothers shadow so for his 14th birthday his parents let him go to Hastings to live with a man named Mr MacKenzie. This is so Jack can fulfill his dream of becoming a jockey. When he arrived at Hastings no one was there to pick him up there only just a note leading him to Mr MacKenzie’s stables.
Later in the story, I think that Jack will become a great jockey and make his family proud especially his big brother Robert and his uncle Onslow.
I'm really enjoying reading this and just can’t wait to read what happens in the end.

School Picnic

Guess what, Pt England School walked down to Pt England Reserve for our school picnic last week. This happens every year so that the students, teachers and other adults can bond.

Walking down to Pt England beach, I felt excited. But then started wondering, what I should do first. When we got there everyone had to wait for Mr. Burt to tell us where we were allowed to go and where not to go, when he finished, the school had to find a place to sit. When we did, the first thing I did was eat my lunch.

After eating a whole lot of food Jorja, Levi and I wondered off wanting to do something exciting. As we were walking, Mr. Barks called us and asked if we wanted to learn how to fly a kite, we all said YES. First it was Levi. When I got the chance to fly the kite it felt like I was going to be pulled up into the air. It was scary but at the same time fun.

My favourite thing that day was playing ball tiggy with Jorja, Tyla, Gloria, Kaycee and Neo. Even though it didn't even last 10 minutes, it was still fun. It was fun because you can get tagged easily and there was heaps of action.

At the end of the day I felt really tired but happy that mostly everyone got along. I am really looking forward for next years picnic.
